Taqueria El Grande
About this place
Taqueria El Grande sits on Park Avenue South in Tacoma, in a clean, well-lit space with large digital menu boards that make ordering straightforward even for first-time visitors facing an extensive menu. A self-serve salsa bar is kept clean and well stocked, with jalapenos and carrots that reviewers describe as perfectly prepared, and the restaurant also offers a dedicated kids menu, making it workable for families with mixed ages at the table.
The carnitas tacos platter, served with rice and beans, is a popular order, and the lengua tacos have earned specific praise from reviewers who call them a must-try for anyone open to trying something beyond the standard taco order. The taco salad with carnitas gets consistent mention for its crispy shell and well-balanced portion of meat and vegetables, and the burritos are described as stuffed to the point of being a full meal on their own. To-go orders are typically ready within minutes, and food is reported to stay hot through the drive home, a detail that has made the restaurant a regular weekly lunch stop for more than one reviewing family.
Pricing runs a bit higher than some nearby competitors, with a couple of combo meals and drinks totaling close to fifty dollars before tip, but most guests describe the quality and portion size as worth the difference. One longtime customer, visiting for more than twenty years, has consistently praised the quantity and quality of the food, even while flagging an occasional inconsistency like a smaller-than-expected side salad. For anyone in Tacoma looking for a reliable, family-friendly Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu and a well-run salsa bar, Taqueria El Grande remains a strong, long-standing choice in the area. The digital menu boards make it easier for newcomers to navigate the sheer number of options without feeling lost, and the combination of a kids menu, generous portions, and consistently fast to-go service has kept it a weekly habit for more than one local family over the years. Whether the order is a simple carnitas taco or a fully loaded burrito meant to be shared, the restaurant's consistency across two decades in the same location has made it one of the more trusted Mexican restaurants in this part of Tacoma.

Oh my goodness my first time trying here and they did not disappoint. That was the best Quesadilla Birria I have ever taste. The food was fresh and place is clean. It was calm despite the location. I would definitely return.
This restaurant is CLEAN! so immaculate! The food was great- we had carnitas, pollo, and carne asada tacos. The beans and rice were exceptional- I find most underseasoned, but these were SO good! Staff was super kind, ordering was fast and easy. One of the best carne asada tacos I’ve ever had- SO juicy and d flavorful, no tough or dry bits at all! Oh, and the creamy green spicy salsa is reason enough to go back. Yum!
My favorite Tacos in the area. I found this place when I first moved into my new home and I have gone back a handful of times. Authentic and never disappoints. The staff are never usually as excited to see me as I am them, but that's ok. I would go there more if they didn't use styrofoam products.
Over-salted quesadilla & old, runny, tasteless guac! I wish this place better. The steak quesadilla was tasty at first but the more bites you take the more you realize just how salty it is. I couldn’t finish it. The guac looked old, runny and tasteless. It kind of tasted like the guac you get at Safeway. I’m pretty disappointed in the overall food prep. It was just OK. Not memorable , so we probably won’t come back.
Tried a couple chicken tacos for a quick dinner one night and went to sleep thinking about them, will definitely be going out of my way for more anytime I'm within a 5 mile radius.
Really Good Tacos & Queso Birrira Taco's.Go see them, family friendly :)Wide Variety of options available to try and eat.Breakfast Menu10/10
This is a very nice taqueria! The food is really great. They have a salsa bar that was clean and well stocked. The jalapeños and carrots were perfect. The ordering process was easy as they have several large monitors displaying their menu. They have a kids menu. The prices seemed reasonable given today's economic climate. We ordered the 3 carnitas tacos platter with rice and beans. They come with onions on the tacos so if you don't like onions let them know. The restaurant is clean and well lit. They also offer catering.
It was excellent, but it is a Hispanic run location, and there is a huge menu. You can get lost unless you know what you're looking for. And 2 meals ( carne asada Burrito & Chicken Quesadilla with drinks came to almost $50 (before tip)Group sizeSuitable for all group sizes
